Cantopop concerts One of the side effects of dating a Chinese girl is that I suddenly find myself obliged to attend a Cantopop concert with her from time to time. The first show I went to was by an overaged boy band named "Grasshopper" and I was treated to broken vocals, garish costumes and cheesy dance moves. The concert seemed to drag on interminably but the audience actually seemed to appreciate it. Next, we went to a show by a Taiwanese singer named Harlem Yu. It was slightly better, but still quite awful. I don't know why they have so many unfunny comedy sketch interludes during the show. Just get it over with! To my displeasure, Grasshopper made a cameo appearance towards the end. Tonight we are going to see "Sammi." I'm bringing binoculars and plan to entertain myself looking for eye candy among the backup dancers. There is no other way. I wonder, do any of these performers actually have an ounce of talent? Is there a way to wean my girlfriend off this crap?

i went to harlem's concert. his formula for concerts are all the same. so his concerts are like the same from 10 years ago, except a varied song selection. so i'm sure his fans are very familiar with those skits you mentioned. despite that he is incredibly talented because he writes and performs his own songs. i cant the same about the other "ARTISTS" from hk tho. and oh yeah. 2 hour concerts are the norm here.

If she's a homegrown HK girl then the only way you can wean her off that crap is to take her out and away from Hong Kong. People I know changed when they moved from HK. When they come back for visits they revert to their former identities rather like jelly. I've been to concerts by local acts and each was unbearable to the point that I swore never again. However, one's circle of friends changes and years pass by before you are trapped into watching another. I, like you, spend most of my time looking at the talent.

i think it's good that you've gone with her to the concerts even though you don't like that entertainment. she likes the concerts you shouldn't want to take that away from her. i grew up in australia yet i like going to the local concerts here. if tickets weren't expensive i would like to go to more. however i don't like the culture of waving the neons and slapping the pong bong sticks as these are distracting. i've got cousins who are locals yet they don't listen to chinese music. they're into mainstream western rock and pop. sammi's concert is big and going worldwide. you should consider yourself lucky to be going as she's popular and tickets sold out quickly. if she needs someone to go with her in future she can pm me
