SATA DVD Drives

Has anyone bought one of these? Do they improve performance of your sata-based system?

not really much, esp the int. tx rate of CD/DVD is not that fast.

Review shows that the differences are not obvious.

actually i thinik PATA is more than enough to carry CD/DVD rate, and sata is juz for those new mainboard which juz got 2 pata heads......

btw, i really hate the bulky PATA cable and i would change a SATA one as the price is very similart to those PATA

An SATA DVD drive will complement the system's other SATA drives without slowing it down like a PATA drive would. Most current systems only have a single IDE connector on the motherboard for PATA drives so changing to an SATA DVD drive would free that IDE slot for legacy drives like MO. Plus there is the added benefit of thinner cables to reduce cable congestion and heat build up.
