| An MPF question I left my last job a few months back and undertook another project with the same employer on a freelance contract. I finally got paid, but the amount deposited in my savings account was $980 less than the contracted amount. I was going to complain, but then I received a statement indicating a $1000 employer contribution and $1000 member contribution to my preserved MPF account at HSBC, dated several weeks after the salary payment. I was not even aware that I was eligible for MPF as a freelancer. So now I'm inclined to think the deduction was related to MPF. But why was it in the amount of $980 rather than $1000? Does anyone have some insight into the situation? |

| Mandatory MPF - 5% contribution capped at $1000 max from both employer and employee.
