Hi,

I am planning to get a Wii in HK, but before I do so I would like to know the answers to the following questions. It would be great if anyone can help answer some of the following:

1. Latest price of Wii Japan version
2. Latest Price of Wii US version
3. Which is the official version of Wii in HK? I don't think US / Jap versions are the official versions.
4. Price of getting a Wii Chip Modded
5. Wii Japan version chip modded = Wii US version chip modded?
6. Are shops selling Japanese Wii games or US Version Wii games more?
7. Why do people buy Japanese versions in HK? I would expect HK people being able to read more English than Japanese...

PS: I am not in HK at the moment, otherwise I would of done the research myself.

Not officially sold here so there is no HK version.
4. Price of getting a Wii Chip Modded
About HKD300.
5. Wii Japan version chip modded = Wii US version chip modded?
I believe that they use the Wiikey chip. Once modded both will be able to play copied/backup games as well as the originals.
6. Are shops selling Japanese Wii games or US Version Wii games more?
Not sure as they are so expensive I've stopped looking.
7. Why do people buy Japanese versions in HK? I would expect HK people being able to read more English than Japanese...
They buy the Japanese versions because they are cheap (both the console and the people ).

A word of warning and that is the Japanese version is known to hang when trying to play certain English games. The same game will play fine in a US version Wii.

Thanks alot for your reply. I was thinking that prices in HK would be significantly cheaper than here in UK. You can get a Wii (including Wii Sports) for 180 pounds (around HKD2800). http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...er/5683257.htm

I'm not 100% sure those figures are right - I paid $2450 (cash, of course) a couple of weeks back for a Japanese Wii, modded, with a HK PSU and a spare controller set - Wiimote and nunchuk.

You may find that people in HK aren't overly concerned with the prices of, uh, 'official' games - if the difference in price is for Wii Sports, that can easily be solved with a trip to the friendly people in the slightly less well-lit shopping centre across the road...

I would like to buy a Wii but have heard that nintendo may ban any modded wii just as microsoft have with the Xbox 360. Does anyone know if this is the case?
