HK Standard

Did not realize it before, but HK Standard seems to be even more of a Communist Party mouthpiece than SCMP: they have nothing about June 4th in the web edition today while Ming Pao and Apple Daily have it as #1 item on front page.

There are 100's of free newspapers online- why would you want to subscribe to the SCMP? If you can do a trial of it, do so, you will see why it's not worth it.

the media dramatizes alot of the stuff.

anyway it's good to "detox" urself of the news once in awhile. negativity sells in this market. good or happy news is usually the nice little "wrap up piece" before they tell you to have a nice evening. a sweet aftertaste after all the anxious, distressing stuff.

Can anyone tell me what happened on the Tsing Ma Bridge about 10pm on Saturday night? I look right at it and there were alot of red and blue lights both on the bridge and in the water - I wondered if maybe someone jumped.

On the point about the environment, to be fair, yesterday's SCMP headline was "Why won't we turn off the lights?" To that, I thought, "bravo", as the energy wastage in relation to HK lights surely must be huge. The article pointed out complaints made about spotlights burning bright during the day and shops and restaurants lit up all night even when closed. Usage has gone up 25% from 1997 to 2004 even though the population only rose by 4.3 percent during that period.

I myself recycle the weekend newspapers I get, although I wish there was an option for not receiving the classifieds because I never read them..
