That one pisses me off to no end. For the longest time we'd go to the Dickens Bar (when I worked in that area) who would offer a free carlsberg with the curry buffet. Would take an act of god, every single week to get that damn thing upgraded to a Fosters.

If there is 10% on the bill we never add a tip- if there isn't 10% we often add more in cash (not on the credit card) if the service is good. if the service wasn't good- tough, no tip. We try not to go to restaurants which enforce a 10% service charge and, most times, the service is better so they get a better tip. I suspect that, on average, tips are higher when the 10% isn't enforced.
Also, we went to Dan Ryan's in Ocean Terminal a few weeks ago soon after 2pm and they tried to get us to sit near the smoking section (with an 8 month pergnant wife!) but we asked to sit on the other side. We soon discovered why they wanted us to sit near the smoking section- most of the waiting and kitchen staff were asleep on the chairs wrapped up in tablecloths!
Jimbo, I agree as a social smoker that people should be able to go through a meal without a smoko and if they really have to have one, go outside. There is nothing worse than eating in a smoky room.

Pennywise and pound foolish I tell you ... | Hmmm thought a carlsberg to a fosters would of been a downgrade rather than an upgrade.

| | | Might as well just do a real estate deal with the Singaporean Govt and have them take over all of Hong Kong. | |

| | | Friendly, responsive service, good value-for-money on drinks and food plus a nice atmosphere is all that it takes ... and perhaps the location as well; I might not go out of my way to a particular place if it is a hazzle to get there. | |
