US Tax Refund w/o Bank Account

Hi all -

I really hope someone has a suggestion.

I filed my US Federal Tax return and I'm due a good size refund. I had them electonically deposit the funds in to my bank in Hawaii but the bank in Hawaii closed my account due to inactivity.

The deposit was bounced and my bank in Hawaii needs me to physically be there to reopen it. Argh!

So now I'm in limbo.

Before I call the IRS I want to have a plan so I can tell them how to get it to me.

Has anyone filed US taxes out of the country and if so how did you get the refund? I could have them send it to someone in the US but without a bank account they really can't deposit it for me.

If I can get an account here in HK (I don't have a HK ID card) would that help at all? Could they send me an international money order or something?

Any suggestions or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

If the IRS is unable to deposit your tax refund directly, they will automatically send you a refund check. You will then have to deposit the check into your bank account wherever located.

Thank you Brian,

I guess my concern is that the bank here in HK won't deposit a check from a US Bank Account. Is this true?

Thanks!

Foreign checks can be deposited into a bank account in Hong Kong with a small charge.

From what I understand though, you can't open up a bank account here in HK without a HKID. I just opened one up last week and had to show HKID, proof of address, AND my passport (because i'm not a permanent resident).
