If your return to HK at least once every 36 months then you keep your status. If you fail to do so then it reverts to "Right to Land". For all practical purposes this is the same as Permanent Right of Abode. The difference is that you if you get on the wrong side of the law you can be deported. You would still be able to come back any time and live/work.

Yes. I'm not quite sure under what circumstances you could be deported, but that's what the website says here: http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/topical_3.htm and then also follow point 1 which defines RoA and RTL: http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/topical_3_1.htm

Thanks for info. but it's double dutch to me. Im curerntly considering moving to uk and dont know how long their for. The coming back to HK 1 out of 3 years, does that appy to just vacation? Surely if i left for a number of years, over 3, i could come back at anytime to live/work with my chiese husband?

As long as your husband retains his status as a dependant you should be able to work here. You do loose your permanent ID status as far as I can tell. The best bets are to call HK Immigration or email them or just stop by. |

You don't have to come back to HK for a year. You just have to physically be in HK on one occassion every 36 months. I believe you could simply fly in and fly out an hour later so long as you register as entering with HK Immigration. But in any case, as I understand it, once you have Permanent Residence you never lose the right to come and live and work in Hong Kong.
