I'd like to give the government the benefit of the doubt, for now. According to the older hands, things have become worse over the past 5 years. If the trend continues, I'm leaving. I've "breathed" (if that is the right term) the air in industrial China and if that comes here it will be bad news.
I'm not here for ever, anyway.

So far, the air in Hk has not really bothered me at all. I've been through worse in Spore. The smog there can get really bad at times.

There are two differences between SG and HK:

Firstly the annual number of "good" days in HK equals about the number of "bad" days in Singapore. Both average about a week each year? How often can you actually see the sky in HK compared to Singapore?

Secondly we are talking about a permanent problem in HK vs seasonal haze in Singapore (not even every year, although last year was pretty bad I must admit).

I never thought pollution would really bother me, but what I see happening in HK made it pretty clear to me that this can only be a temporary stop in my life.

"I am packing now" because "I have been packing every month for the last 4 years" wasn't an option?

Could be worse... you should be up here in Shanghai where yesterday I could see all of 2 km.

I remember Hong Kong's air being so clean in the early-90s when I first arrived. Maybe a move to the southern hemisphere is next!

And Shangahi isn't bad when compared to Jinan-Tian-Chiping area. Last time I was there you couldn't see 20 metres and there was a toxic chemical smell to the outdoor "air". You knew what you were breathing wasn't heathy.
This all needs to be cleaned up before Shanghai becomes like Jinan and HK becomes like Shanghai.
