Hello,

I am an Australian wanting to come and live in Hong Kong. here is Australia we have independant immigration services that sponsor you so you don't have to be sponsored by a particular company. Does this kind of service exist in Hong Kong? If not, is there any way that you can come to Hong Kong and work for yourself as a sole trader. Thanks for your help.

What you can do is register your own business and then apply for an investment visa. What do you plan to do in Hong Kong, run a business or work for someone?

It depends upon what type of industry you are in for example there are teaching organisations that sponsor teachers to come to Hong Kong and then they assign them to work at various schools around Hong Kong.

Thank you for your reply. The businenss we are in is photography so it is very difficult to be employed by someone. instead, we work for different magazines and advertising agencies etc on a project by project basis and so we need to be self employed.

Is this investment visa something you can help us with?

We have processed Photographers investment visas in the past but it is a very difficult process and the chance of success now it not very high in general.

For journalists and photographers I usually recommend that they find a company that is will to employ them on a full time basis.
