| | 7 year rule? Hi Everyone! I just moved back to HK, been here for 3 weeks. I lived here about 13 years ago for 6.5 years- I was 11 years old when I left. I'm now back and want to stay for good, I have at training visa and some fairly good leads on jobs, but I'm wondering if there are any exceptions to the 7 year rule for getting a permanent ID card. Some locals I have talked to think that I may have a chance at getting one, any other opinions would be a great help to me! Thank You! | |

| | | | hello Some questions for you to consider:
Do you still have any family here?
Did you come back at any point during the large gap?
What is the status of your family?
Generally with such a gap it would be very difficult to proove your case.

| | | Changing the topic somewhat... another question for Emigra...
Up to this year my work permit went: 1 year, 2 years, 2 years. I just got it renewed at the end of 5 years (all with the same employer) expecting it to be for another 2 years, taking me to the 7 I need to apply for PR. But to my surprise it came back with only a 1 year extension. Has there been some change of rules on extensions? Did my employer screw up the application or what? Any ideas?

| | | Unfortunatley no- I never came back during those 13 years as I was so young, my parents and older sister came back a few times. I have no family here at all. The status question- I don't understand what you mean by that. Thank so much for all your help, I will look into these things! | |

| | | What he means is: did any of your other family members get or retain any HK immigration status? (e.g. permanent residence, right to land, etc.) | |

| | | | hello Usually it is 1,2,2,3. But there could be a number of reasons why you were only granted 1 year. Did you stay with the same employer for the last 5 years? That could have been one of the reasons why you were only granted 1 year. | |

| | | Yes - I have been with the same employer - why would that be grounds for giving me a lesser length of stay? | |

| | | Thanks so much for your reply-
Unfortunatley no to all of the above. I am the only one in my family who wants to stay in HK and establish residency. My Father lived here for 7 years but hasn't applied for and probably won't apply for a HKID. So chances are I'm out of luck! | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8.
