NOW TV Rant

Been watching a little too much NOW recently and have noticed one very annoying omission in PCCW's setup. In today's digital world would it be too much to ask for channel information such as what what program is on? When I switch channels the first thing I want to know is "what is this?". So, I need to press the Display button. As this takes nearly 2 seconds and requires the depression of the Exit button to clear the information it is very time consuming and annoying. The TV Guide button gives you a bigger picture but navigating is frustratingly slow. Their website shows program information but the fixed size-windows are difficult to view and infantile.

Now TV is flawed in so many ways, it's a wonder how they can even sustain themselves.

Well the only reason I subscribe is for live F1 races.. Other than that, it is completely and utterly worthless.

Another stupid thing about the interface is that it doesn't tell you the current time. Instead, you get the weather for some reason... Now TV is so stupid it just hurts my brain to think about it

Angry

I read an article a few months ago about how the lady who heads up now digital TV is one of the rising stars in the PCCW organisation and how great a job she has done!

I think the system sucks. Its slow, clunky, awkward to use. Channel subscription deals are poor. We're subjected to discovery channels which show 5 year old shows un-chronologically! They also repeat stuff way too much. Dont get me started about E! channel. Dead people find E! channel boring. Remote is rubbish (try reading any of the buttons in low light levels). Box runs extremely hot (they have had several ones going pop our resident engineer tells me) etc. etc. etc.

This bird is quite fit, which is the only reason I can think she is a rising star....

If she is reading this NOW BROADBAND SUCKS! Just use SKY Digital in the UK to understand how a good TV decoder should work.

And breathe.......

NOW sucks and she sucks too.

Those decoders have been running hot since the first models 5 years back! Ever tried to get program information from a channel when the time is just before midnight? Don't bother because PCCW paid peanuts and got monkeys to design, program and test their systems.

You're so right Sky TV is like dying and going to heaven. Using NOW is like the dying bit.

My problem with NOW (except of course all the ones mentioned previosly), was when they came to install it, apparently my TV was not within reach of the phone jack and the guy refused to wire another jack. So after getting the wireless connection from their system, having one receiver in my office and the other one in the living room, the TV freezes every few minutes. Pisses me off every time!

NOW tv door to door sales ?

this is an old thread but ...had some guys knocking on my door here late on the Sunday holiday night.Said they were from PCCW checking reception (broadband , NOW etc).I told them it was news to me and I hadn't called them, and was no longer with NOW- .More questions from me...Turns out with slimy smiles they were actually hawking NOW tv .Gave them a real bollocking about it and also their timing on a late evening holiday - the dog joined in -really annoys me -and the dog.
Don't think they will be back - do I ring NOW and complain ( oh please ,no....had enough when I was with them) ?Waste of time , right ?

HK people are cheap, PCCW went for the most high tech solution for TV distribution but cut all the corners. In the end the set top boxes are so crap they cannot do anything but display a picture and occasionally a unique ID. The menu and everything else you see is sent by PCCW data centre, on presumably overly shared cheap equipment. This means you cannot do live-preview of channels, or even listen to a channel like any other country because the menus are the TV feed.

Does anyone have Now-HD? That has a new receiver box and the slight chance of an improved setup.
