plank of wood...
Where can I get a plank of wood and have them cut it to a particular size? dumb question I know, but there's just no equivalent of B&Q here...

try lockhart rd between wanchai mtr stn and causeway bay..lots of wood shops there

Yup, can 2nd that. Lockhart road is the place. You can get all types of wood there and they'll cut it anyway you want (for a small fee)...
