a new adventure

hello everybody
I just discovered this site and it is very useful.
My husband and I have been offered both a job in HK, and approx 60000 HK dollars salaries. We also have a daughter of two months old. I have been looking on sites for appartments but it all sounds quite expensive for what you get, and not sure the salary they are proposing to us is good enough for us to live comfortably, with a baby. Which area do you think would be better for us to live in, I believe the job is in Central.
It would be a great help for some advice
Thanks to you all

Once you know more about the actual amount of money you will be able/ willing to spend on housing per month it will be easier to suggest neighborhoods to look at. I think Happy Valley and some places in the Mid-Levels might be in your price range though. Are you only looking on HK island? There are some nice areas like Discovery Bay, Gold Coast, and others, where you get possibly better accommodation for your money, but they will require a ferry ride to Central, making the commute a bit longer. Not sure how Mid-Levels would be with a baby, but see lots of parents and small children out in Happy Valley.

thank you for your answers
confirmation of our salaries will be 54000 for the both of us, to start with. We will be running a restaurant I presume in the area where the Ritz is located if I am not wrong. That's why I am a bit confused about where to relocate. I don't think a ferry ride to go to work would be a problem as long as there are running 24/7 as our hours will be all over the place. Of course the place is very important as we have a new born baby, and actually thinking of having a nanny, all very new for me. I believe we are ready to go up to 1600 a month as we are trying to put some money aside if possible. A nice green area would be fantastic, but we do enjoy the night life too, known to be "electric".
Enough of boring you all, if you have any suggestions, please don't hesitate to drop a few lines, would really help.
Many thanks again

Just to clarify--
54,000 HKD, a baby, nightlife, savings and nanny?
You are going to spend $1600 HKD per month on an apartment?
