Advice needed on present for my girlfriend

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a cool HK birthday present for my girlfriend and desperately seeking inspiration... I was wondering if any of you might have some ideas?

Basically, I'm looking to spend around 1500-2250 HKD but can go higher if necessary. My girlf earns lots of money in her banking job and can buy most things she wants (hence my dilemma), so this has to be something unique (ideally to HK) and personal. Maybe a bespoke necklace or ring, or some kind of cool chinese lantern/lamp for her flat. She's also mentioned that she needs a new watch...

Sorry if this sound kind of vague... I just wondered if anyone had some HK insider knowledge on cool presents to buy out here.

Any advice much appreciated,

ttw

Cool chinese lanterns and stuff for the home - chinese modern : GOD (Causeway Bay)

Chinese antique souvenir: Lascar Row (Central, below Hollywood street)

Beautiful gifts for any classy woman : Shanghai Tang (Central) : chinese class : clothes, homewares and accessories...

Hermes have some georgeous bracelets and things(Pacific Place)
Cool accessories and clothes : Agnes B (IFC)

If she likes to drink expressos : a nespresso machine (new shop IFC)

If she likes to pamper herself : a gift certificate to a spa

Some tech ideas : one of those new Ipod alarm clocks, a little digital camera that fits in any handbag and you can always have on you...

Seems like she gave you the answer already, if you find another idea, use it next time remember it only get harder and harder over time, as you cant always give the same thing!
Good luck with your quest.

if she's not the uber materialistic type, why don't you be creative and arrange a gift in line with any extracurricular interests she may have or
some other romantic suggestions, for example:
music concert, picnic on the beach, private junk ride, pampering at a spa, weekend trip somewhere, cooking class, ballroom dancing, etc...

I always prefer when my boyfriend does this than getting (then again i'm probably one of the few women out there in this world that detests jewelry such as rings and necklaces and abhors diamonds LOL) I'm not that big into "stuff", more into trips, unique experiences, etc...

if your girlfriend appreciates this type of gift it gives you major brownie points because it shows you put much more thought and effort into planning for her birthday than just going to the store and buying something.
you can always get more stuff, but special experiences with loved ones are irreplaceable.
and if it's really love and again if she's not the uber materialistic type, she won't really care how much or little you spend. it's not the money, it really is the thought and planning that will be appreciated.

Then again. a lot lies in the style and character of your gf....

As a general female point of view... I like shoes, jewellery, bling blings , bags and of cos properties in NYC or London...

But like what Mr Bing said... some rather like holidays....adventure and expeditions...

But fear not!!! there are just too many things out there for ladies...

Talking of which.. may pop by lane crawford later .. hee hee....its my bday soon... need a gift..... self-gift!

The boutique at Four Seasons is a beautiful one just to look at. I think it's the best hotel boutique on Hong Kong Island. I like to go there for gifts that are hard to find elsewhere, such as these little handmade silk-covered poetry books (in English). If you order in advance, they can make a copy for you with your dedication page. Great gift if your girlfriend is the intellectual type.

Lane Crawford is loved by every woman in town but perhaps it's the shopping experience that's exhilarating.

If your GF is earning lots of money and is in the banking industry, I would forget about buying a watch for the price range you have in mind. She will probably want to have a Panerai or Cartier for her job.

A spa session for 2 at Four Seasons or Landmark Oriental is a great experience if you ask me!

This thread was originally started in April 2007, so one would like to think that the OP managed to find something already.
