| Hi Everyone, My husband and I are moving to HK from NYC around July, for 1 to 2 years. We are a young professional couple, husband is an ABC, I grew up in Guangzhou and moved to New York when I was a kid, we've both been back to HK so are somewhat familiar with the city. We want to get recommendations on what areas/neighborhoods to look for apartments in with the following budget/requirements in mind: Monthly rent: up to HKD26,000 Apt Size: around 900 to 1200 gross sq ft, high floor Apt Condition: New or very new, we want to live in one of those new apt complexes with pool, gym, etc. Environment: less congested, more open spaces, but fairly convenient with shops and restaurants Transportation: close to MTR or buses, commute time can be up to 35 minutes from Central Our ideal place will be in a semi "suburban" area in HK that has easy transportation to get to Central, and is accessible to shops/markets and restaurants. Do you guys know of any new/fairly new apartment complexes in areas that fit our criterion? Thanks! BXU Last edited by bxu; 24-04-2007 at 08:57 AM. |

| hey i'm moving from NY to HK too. with that gross space, the apt is gonna be small - esp the bedrooms. but for 26K i'm sure u'll get a bigger place in new territories. |

Hi, I want to live on either HK island or Kowloon. New Territories is a bit too far, I think? Thanks, BXU |

When are you moving and do you know where you will be living? Yeah I've heard plenty (and seen some) about small bedrooms. We live in an 800sf condo now so it's definitely gonna be an adjustment in HK! Do you think for 26K I can get a decent sized 2 br in HK Island or Kowloon in a fairly new development? Thanks, BXU |

| You have a 800sf place in the US and you are looking for 900sq-1200sf apartment in Hong Kong. What is this adjustment you are talking about? 100-300sf bigger? Not that much of a difference to be excited about. |

| keep in mind that that website is good for just that...research. take everything with a grain of salt, or maybe a pound of it...it seems to me that whenever i call the agency advertising the place i'm interested in, it's "just gone" or "now for sale, no rent"..... |

| Just got a quote from Allied. It's about $7200 to move door to door from NYC to HK. for a 1 bedroom home - is this reasonable? Sorry i know this thread is about accommodation - but curious if we're getting ripped off. but hey just also helping to bump this up. |
