information Hi there, My girlfriend and I have decided that I go to move to Hong Kong for living. We tried to do that in Europe, but didn’t workout. So now I want to move to HK. Already have been there for several times so I know what to expect from the weather and so on. As a ICT professional I don’t think I have a problem finding a job. Any way working in a bar suits me fine to. But how will do I start this? Does my g/f have to do all the work for filling in the forms for the government? Is it easier if we get married? If someone has some information please let me know. Regards, Marc

Unless you have right of abode in HK then you will need to get a work permit or be married to someone who has permanent residence here. Getting a wrok permit is by no means automatic unless you have some skills which cannot be found amongst locals. You should do some more research by reading the many posts on these forums answering similar questions.

Thank you for your replay. I have read the many post indeed. The government documents only talks about “spouse†so the easiest way is to get married. We know each other already 6 years so that would not be a problem. Because I have to show the government I have skills that can not be found under the locals. Does that still apply if we got married? If so how do I manage that? Many thanks for your replay. Regards, Marc
