I am moving from the UK to Hong Kong in May and will be working on Queens Road Central. I would like to live within 5 mins walking distance of the office but would also like something flexible i.e i don't want a 12 months lease. Ideally to start with i would want to rent serviced accomodation or rent a room for about 3 months. I would also like to meet other expats once i am out there as i don't know anyone out there at the moment. Ideally my budget would be about 10,000hk$ depending upon whether a service apartment or renting a room. Any help/advice you can give would be most appreciated. I look forward to hearing from people and hopefully finding somewhere to live and making new friends.

I looked at apartments together with Rowena, agent, info@landspert.zip.io. She can put together a list with your price range. I did not end up using her free services though becuase my company managed to find the one I liked best.

Where you work on Queens Road Central will determine what is 5 minutes walking distance away... can you be any more specific? There are lots of serviced apartments in the general area, but not sure about the price range.

That's the building at the junction with Ice House Street. There are very, very few residential buildings within five minutes walk of there. The only serviced apartments I know of would be the ones up next to the FCC at the top of Ice House Street, but they advertise at $14,000-$22,000 for 320-750 sq.ft. But 9 QRC is on a lot of bus routes, right by the tram line, and less than 100m from the MTR, so a commute from further away would be very easy. Last edited by PDLM; 27-04-2007 at 05:51 PM.

Ice House serviced apts where not so nice in my opinion but good price for that location. It felt a bit motel like with low lit hallways and the rooms did not feel too fresh (surfaces). Probably totally depends on what you are used to or demand. My company pays 35700/month at Peel St for 750 sqf and a 3? month lease. I am very happy with it, nice views in two directions from 27th floor and very functional. Insane amount of money for this space that I would NEVER pay myself if I was here long term.

Well i am flying out from UK on Friday 11th May and my company are putting me up for a couple of weeks and during that time i will need to find my own serviced accomodation. I would also be interested in meeting up with people, especially the people that have been so kind in responding to my accomodation problem as i do not know HK well at all and don't even know what is within a reasonable walk or MRT journey and would appreciate any advice/recommendations you can give me. I'm also open to a flat share as my budget isn't huge at this moment in time and i don't want to commit for 12 months either until i see how things go!! Can anyone recommmend places to live that are not far away on the MRT or a bus ride away from 9 Queens Road Central? Many thanks Diana
