lowlight, you won't sway people who don't share your views, just as they won't sway you.
the fact is, not only were lots of pigs killed (and i don't think they're cute), they were apparently killed brutally and inhumanely. bringing other arguements in is totally irrelevant.
the fact they went to waste is a different, yet also legitament arguement.
we aren't ranting about snakes and other uglies because they are not farmed then mass killed. people keep them in glass cages and eat them in restuarants.
i do hear you that some "conservatives" are a little irrational, but so are some club weilding barbarians that live by the "if it's green burn it, it is moves eat it" motto
i don't buy the cute arguement - it's a pro meat eaters way of evading accusations of murder

i am vego now, but in years gone by i have hand prepared my own meat, from the pet to the table... cows, goats, sheep, rabbits... all cute in their own way...
best not to label all "animal rights people" with the stigma you would label such organisations as PETA, who are often so ill-informed and blinkered it scares even the most devout pro-lifers and animal libs.
BTW, people DO whine about the millions of pigs and cows and sheep killed daily for food... but they are way out numbered by those who chow down on the flesh.
this is one area where people are way passionate, and there is no real middle ground. why do you think the vets found it so hard at AFCD?? ethically they knew it was wrong, but also had no power to find a solution. either take part in something you don't morally agree with, or turn your back on it...?? not a choice I'd like to have made.
