I was listening to some people saying that you need to be careful about your internet activities, since you can find a lot by google'ing people's names. So I googled my own name when I got home. Sure enough, there were 2,000+ results, almost all work related. But somehow the top result is a silly article I wrote for a friend's web-based magazine about six years ago. It's not too embarrassing, but I don't want every curious party reading it. Is there anything I can do about this blemish?

I think your judgement of google is pretty superficial. They are much worse than what you are talking about.

The masses have sucked up to this company and unknowingly have become its zombies. They will be responsible for the largest violation of personal privacy in history.

So please don't mail me with your gmail account. :-)

read an article recently where google is trying to clean up all the google "bombs" out there, as they call them, where people try to manipulate search results.

unfortunately they even fixed the long known google bomb where when you typed in "miserable failure" in the search field, the first hit would be a link to George W. Bush's official bio on the White House website, LOL

bli : the miserable failure fix .. is called a "hand job" by search industry folks .. it was not an algorithmic fix .. it was a bit of a tweak where they removed a few prominent examples.
