Ducasse

Ducasse is going to be in HK for two nights at SPOON, anyone planning on going? or has anyone tried his food in Paris before? I know he must be an amazing chef, but it would be nice to hear from someone who has tried it firsthand

I've tasted his degustation menu at Spoon. My rating was ok

Some of my friends have had full course meals at Spoon. Ratings ranged from ok to excellent

I believe the food at his Paris place is out of the world. Hope to do that sometime soon

Surely eating at Spoon while Ducasse is in the kitchen would be a fantastic experience. Tell us how it goes

I went to Spoon the first week it opened. I ordered the tasting menu. It was expensive and mediocre. And despite making a booking two weeks in advance (Yes, I booked even before they officially opened), I was placed at a table virtually next to the kitchen. I vowed never to go again and so far have kept that promise.

hey sorry for the late reply! Life is going crazy!

I went, I dined, and the food was really good - service not so much, - but it seems to be a trend in HK.

The menu was set, you could choose whether you wanted your lamb rare or not. Ducasse was very much in the kitchen, and you could see him running around it, as well as socialising a little with the guests.

The Menu:

fois gras 'lucullus' - with a brioche - a very interesting take of fois gras, it came in small bowl with a spoon which was something new to us.

marinated thin slices of sea bass with lemon French 'aquitaine' caviar - This dish was by far my favourite, it was so unique, the lemon sauce was just acidic enough and it actually came with a range of condiments such as egg white, egg yolk, parsley, sage, all lined up next to each other on the plate in a stripe form. - it's a dish i will never forget.

Asparagus and Leek - very fresh, and it was a nice course before the fillet of sole.

filet of sole from the coast of Brittany in light morel cream sauce - this was another interesting dish - as the fillet of soles texture was rather - my friend described it as bouncy - i would agree with her.

saddle of milk-fed lamb with spring vegetables and garlic/parsley butter - this dish was absolutely divine - the lamb was so so tender, and the flavours of the spring vegetables really complimented the lamb - truly magnificient.

contemporary Vacherin mango/passion fruit and lemon vanilla/coconut meringue
Dark Chocolate with Raspberries
Both desserts were divine, scrumptious and absolutely fabulous - lol. - and the dark chocolate with raspberries was like going to heaven - but then again every woman says that about chocolate. But a lover of Dark Chocolate, the quality of it, the gloss, the shine and how it was presented was perfect.

At one point of the dinner, i think it was dessert, we were presented with cutlery that resembled a Spork - we sat there in awe - a spork in silver - it was quite amusing, we learned later that it was called a "georgette" - you learn something new everyday!

All in all, the food was amazing, apparently much better than the normal menu at Spoon - service was okay - i wont go into that, since I have extremely high standards and can be very picky about service, and you would just not hear the end of it lol.

Well hope you all enjoyed this long post - and I wish everyone a great week, the weather is going crazy so make sure you all stay healthy!

Sheeana.
