I've really got no idea where to go and how much it would cost.

for the watch you can try the watchmaker stalls in central. Its amazing the range of styles they keep and can replace it whilst you wait.

Where in Central? I live in the NT and we have a 10-month old, so my journeys to Central tend to be specific, rather than wanderings.

ispikes, I will recommend Anna in World Wide House.
She fixes millions of things for me. If she can't do it, she knows every soul in the place who can.

She is in a tiny shop on the main level of WW House that sells faux jewerlry and hair clips and girlie stuff.
She can turn pierced earrings into clips, fix links in watchbands (remove) fix necklace clasps. Lots of handy stuff.

As you open the big doors after riding the escalator up, go right and she is the little shop on the left abt 5 metres up.
