Lightbulb Fashion + Party = Fashion Party (For people who like to get the taste of glamour)

(Not too bad for my 4th and 5th week in Hong Kong. Once again, I confess I am a pretentious silly sausage )

Hong Kong is the compressed version of New York City that fashion and party are the married couple in their best terms. They are never got separated.

What: Diesel's Fashion Party (by invitation only)
When: Friday 16th March
Where: Star Ferry
Who: Hollywood movie stars, local TV actors/actresses, media celebrities, local singers/performers, model crew...etc.
Wear: My late 80s style Pucci dress
(bit out of the scene, I know. I was running out of time after a late night work. And just this time once, I was not allowed to be late - how could I let a celeb wait for me? Anyway, the difference stood out.)
That was exactly the moment when I felt like nobody under the pressure of fame. But then it didn't stop me getting a feel of the glamour and of course, the free flow Champaign (which was run out before 1am).
Although I was aware that whoever got to walk on the red carpet must have been someone worthy mention in the gossip columns, I could not recognize anyone expect two or three movie actors. I think my ignorance might have annoyed one or two female celebs when I asked for their names. Thanked Terence Yin (if you ever watched Tomb Reader II or HBO, you'll recognize his face), he made my night so much easier by introducing me to all his friends.
It was not really a perfect occasion for networking since everybody thought he/she was somebody. So I rather kept my mouth quiet and enjoyed the performance of Kanye West's crew (not Kanye in person) and some members from the famous local hip-hop band LMF. I got a few contact numbers in the end but lost them all ten days ago. (Damn the thief in Homebase!)
Overall, it was a grand scale fashion party. Two levels of standing area, VIP with celebs at one end and models at the other, decent size of stage and some symbolic Diesel's new collection on the background? I have been disappointed with Diesel?s last few seasons. No exception for this one neither.

What: The Voyeur's Fashion Party (by invitation only)
When: Wednesday 21st March
Where: M1nt
Who: Big name photographers, all kinds of fashion designers, famous makeup artists
Wear: Missoni black&white bubble dress
(perfectly in! Got so much compliment from the fashion people)
Friend of mine is the watch designer for Voila, one of the party sponsors. One of the weirdest things I have ever experienced was the girl in that DJ booth. If not because my designer friend showed me the way, I'd never even have thought of looking into the balck booth through a tiny window. There she was, the "not-so-hot" girl sort of danced inside the box with a few watches and some bags in her hands and on her wrists whenever someone put his/her eyes next to the window. I can't quite recall what the design pieces looked like. I couldn't help thinking about the private stripers I watched in the box in Amsterdam. Well, at least they were hot.

Lucky we had a table to avoid being stamped over - it was so fully packed from 10.30pm to 12am. It was the perfect occasion for networking and building up the connections within the fashion industry, especially if you were new in town. All the designers from textile, knitwear, watch, handbag, jewelry, footwear... to ready-to-wear suddenly all gathered around in one place.
One more time though to pick on the music in M1nt. This time they didn?t only play the 90s hip-hop but also the 80s retro. I could not understand and I don?t think I ever will.
A big bonus on the side that I fed the baby sharks with some fresh fish meat. They were so adorable but maybe they never needed to make effort to catch food, their reaction was rather slow.

What: The Fashion TV's Image Next Top model Party (by invitation only)
When: Monday 26th March
Where: Volar
Who: FTV Executives, big title club owners, models of course
Wear: Marc Jacobs black silk blouse with a mini denim skirt
(just proper enough since I was not in the competition)
Since the theme was the "Next Top Model", people pretty much waited and waited for the competition to start. I was lucky enough to get the best view right behind the judges since I was at FTV's table. Seven models from various agencies came out for two rounds one by one. Six Caucasians and one Asian (why wasn't I surprised at all?) I had no idea how they chose the candidates but they were certainly not the top of the options to say the least. Someone couldn't walk, someone had the worst makeup on and someone never looked up or posed... Eventually after the long waiting time for the judges' decision and the constant mistakes that the two hosts made (they even stopped in the middle of the talk on the stage and ran to each other for a secret discussion), the result came out. The winner laughed, danced and cheered on the stage and the audiences were commenting something like "no f*cking way!", "Cheat!"...
Anyway, when it was all finished, the great house music was on full volume again. People started dancing and leaving. When more people left, all the models remained. The funniest and most ridiculous thing happened that night was that twice my friend bought the bottle of Champaign, twice we put on the table next to the DJ stage (also where all the models normally were) and twice the bottles vanished in the air. I was in shock when it happened the second time. Then I saw three male models sitting on the couch next to us and pointing on the two glasses untouched Champaign. Five seconds later, the two glasses Champaign were no longer on the table but in their hands. Just to mention, one of the glasses was mine.

What: Hogan's Fashion Display Party (by invitation only)
When: Tuesday 27th March
Where: Pier 7
Who: Big corps top Executives from all industries, celebs
Wear: Miss sixty Jeans with a light brown see-through knit blouse
(bit casual for a change. Found myself lost in bunch of dresses and skirts)
The Hogan's latest collection looked fabulous. The still-in golden color sneakers and over-size handbags completely stimulated the desire of ownership. The two even more fabulous Italian showroom designers accomplished the task amazingly within only three days. The 3D mini city night scene on the background of the bar was some gorgeous thing I?d never seen before.
I was surprised that I had the best service ever there since I moved to Hong Kong. Plenty of waiters and waitress were holding the bottles of Champaign, wine, trays of delicious French appetizers, cheese, deserts?etc. and walking around to serve people in the best way they could. A little piece of napkins they provided with the glasses definitely deserved the extra points. Plus all types of cocktails in the martini glasses on the bar, Hogan's fashion party has made to the top rank, at least in Hong Kong.
Just like what I experienced in the Diesel's, tons of photographers from all media outlets were busy with seeking the familiar faces. I did have a feeling that I could easily have a normal conversation with the expats celebs, i.e. the CEO of the Celestial Pictures (the biggest movie production company in Hong Kong), but not the local ones. Prove of the difference between Western and Asian cultures.

What: Playboy Pre-Sevens Fashion Party (by invitation only)
When: Thursday 29th March
Where: California Tower
Who: Playboy models, bunny girls, all kinds of men
Wear: Green tube dress with a big bow above the chest and my favorite Playboy necklace
(being told I should go on the stage to do the fashion show)
They really tried. I mean compare to the Playboy parties in LA or NY, this one impressed nobody. Alright, they did put five models on the stage with sexy lingerie on to walk around for a couple of minutes. They also did hire five local girls with that typical bunny chick outfit on to fit the theme. But that was it. For the whole time I got terrified whenever someone tried to pass me a pair of bunny ears made in the cheapest fabrics and plastic.
However, it didn't stop the men rushing down to the front of the stage before the fashion show started. They simply pushed, squeezed and stepped on each other without the basic manner. That was exactly the moment when human-beings transformed to hungry beasts.
It was not even the full moon yet.
People disappeared very quickly after the last show. That was only midnight.

Peace!

I've been no stranger to attending events in this lifetime, but it certainly is interesting reading someone keep tabs to this degree of parties they've been to - I merely bank the memory for a later date!

Kmht, it adds some meaning to the meaningless parties if you can remember what was going on, who you talked to, what kinda music they played...etc.

Greenietea, this is what I remember:
What I was wearing on each date in the past five years;
What I was wearing on each big party or event;
The price of every piece of my clothes;
The shops where I got each piece of my clothes from;
Restaurants that I went to with each of my date in the past five years;
and many more....

That's why I could never wear the same outfit in front of the same guy for at least one year based on the frequency of seeing each other twice a week.

Understandable comment, but may possibly taken the wrong way - I quite enjoyed the initial post in any event.

As I said, insightful behaviour and a definate first for me, in "meeting" someone that takes such meticulous care in "party debriefing", a practice I find, intriguing.

stylejj, i love it, reads a bit like the first few chapters of american psycho! although you've gotta spell champagne right if we're gonna believe you.

What: me having dinner
Where: Thai kitchen, Lamma
Who: me, a couple of locals, a group of expat kids playing cards, a couple of friends getting takeout, and the family owners watching "trackside".
Dress: helmut lang faded jeans, tailored white work shirt with hugo boss cufflinks, old white asics trainers and a $40 MK-style orange wideknit jersey.
a random ensemble which i think suited the post-work cosy bustle well, although there wasn't a whole load of forethought to this, just a half-arsed attempt to change out of my suit before i just got too damn hungry to fiddle with cufflinks.

Being only a rainy Wednesday night before Easter, there was a conspicious lack of models, although i may have glimpsed melanie z walking by with her dogs.
the music was hard-hitting k-songs from the tiny portable tv hung from the wall, but around 8.30 the owner's son was loudly and eloquently prompted by the owner to pick up the remote and change channel to ATV's "Trackside", a regular wednesday night fixture in the kitchen. the crowd fell silent as the 3rd race from happy valley was shown; but tonight, it seemed, nobody was a winner, and only groans from the crowd ushered in horse 11's photofinish.
the food, as always, was superb. i got up and helped myself to a can of san miggel: our city, our beer, your job to grab it out of the fridge.
by around 9pm the atmosphere was warm, cosy and happy, but i had to go home and feed the dogs. besides i still had a blistering hangover from gatecrashing the "Hong Kong Mode Lingerie" show at the convention centre last night and drinking too much red wine.
