| | | Clearwater Bay or Sai Kung We are moving from the UK to HK in October. My husband will be based mostly at the film studios in the Clearwater Bay area and at other times in Kowloon. We have a son who will be 3 by the time we move. I will not intially be working, though may do so later on.
I would really appreciate advice on where we should look to live. Clearwater Bay seems the obvious choice as it will be close to my husband's main place of work but it is important that we are in an area that has a sense of community and where I will be able to meet people and make friends as I fear isolation! Would Sai Kung be better or is there somewhere else we should be looking? Also need to be close to nursery and junior schools that follow a British curriculum as we will be returning to the UK at some point.

| | | To clarify-
Clearwater Bay is PART of Sai Kung area. You probably are referring to Sai Kung City....but just so you don't get mixed up with communicating with others upon your arrival.
Clearwater Bay is closer to the studios. However, the studios are in Tseung Kwan O which is next to CB.
Sai Kung City would be more "community" feel, while CB's living areas are all quite dispersed. CB are all condos and houses, very little apartments.
Sai Kung City center would have more apartments, and your daily needs like super markets, restaurants, grocery stores, bakery, ...are all gathered in one place.
Nothing like that in CB. Just a Park N Shop (supermarket) in Silverstrand. We do all our shopping (closest) is in Tseung Kwan O.
CB is also better for transportation, traffic is better, and is closer to the MTR stations of Tseung Kwan O.
Sai Kung City- the only bad thing in my opinion living there is ... there is only ONE road out of Sai Kung City, when there's car accidents... esp during rush hours, it's really bad traffic.

| My friend lives in CB, you need to walk 15 mins or so to get to the main road with any buses and there is one KMB route 91 which comes off peak every like 20 mins. Then I see mini bus going to Po Lam rarely more often Tseung Kwan O, even off peak for that is rare. To get a taxi you need to call.
That is better than Sai Kung City?

| | | I was referring to Driving, and traffic jams I guess. There are definitely MORE mini bus going in and out of Sai Kung City, but CB is much closer to MTR station than Sai Kung City. And there is hardly traffic jams on CB road.
I live not DEEP into Clearwater Bay, therefore I find transportation definitely better than SK. However, if you go way deep into CB like Sheung Sze Wan, or further, then you definitely need a car.
Both SK and CB are big places. It depends where you settle down.
There are many places in SK that you have to WALK up to the main road too to catch mini bus.

| | Timnat - Sai Kung town is not a city....it's quite small (I'd guess about 25,000 in population). There are a few shops in CWB (ParknShop, hairdresser, pet shop, lots of real estate agents) but the majority are in SK Town.
SnowOcean - it's probably about 1/2 hr from Wing Lung Rd. I happen to know that, with no traffic delays, it's exactly 12 minutes from the University of Science & Technology to SK Town and I'd guess it's around 15 minutes from UST to Wing Lung Rd.
Now....when the gas company has Hiram's Highway dug up....that's another matter

Judy www.exploresaikung.com | I think to drive from anywhere in CB to UST is like 10 min. Maybe I am crazy. | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8. The time now is 09:25 PM.
