Hi,

I'm moving to Hong Kong in May. Would appreciate some recommendations on where to stay. I'm single.

My budget is HKD6k-8k, planning to get an apartment for 300-400 sq ft around Sheung Wan or Wan Chai.

Is that reasonable? If not any other recommendations?

It sounds a little over ambitious, but then that depends on what level of standard you expect (new build vs older building). Maybe you could try a little further west (sai yin pun, shek tong tsui, kennedy town) for lower rents. Still a reasonable commute to Central (20-30mins by bus in peak traffic)

If you want a place in good conditions, you probably want to look at Sai Wan. For $8K in Wanchai or Shui Wan, you probably need to aim at the old Chinese walk-up buidings and compromise on the condition.

got my place at sheung wan for $8k/mth. 490sq.ft. on 25th flr 5mins walk to mtr. it's an old building, prolly 20years but it's clean with 2 elevators.

I live in Sheung Wan, about a minute's walk to the MTR station and pay $7500. It's in an old building- no lift, but inside is great and was totally renovated before I moved in. It's definitely possible. I had a good estate agent who found me a few options in the area. PM me if you want the details.
