Red face where to live, PLEASE HELP

we're moving to HK in late august to live for a few years. i've been to HK once but i was more interested in shopping than anything else and didn't have a look at apartment at all, we need advices on where to live in HK island. with only a few conditions we're lookingto buy 2 bed rooms apartment with budget of a 2M maybe a little bit more. ( if thats possible)
1. my bf want to live close to MTR (walking distance)
2. i want to live close to shops and restaurants.
3. with a good kitchen!

If you could help us with the area or even the building name that would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

Get a serviced apartment for a month or two when you get here and work it out then. It's ridiculous to be trying to buy a property to live in from thousands of miles away.

we do have a place to live already for the first few months (company provided) but i just would like to know the area or where should we be looking in order to buy a decent apartment when we get there so that would help narrow down the choices.

Well OK - start here: http://www.gohome.com.hk and enter your criteria for size and price. "Close to shops & restaurants" probably means the north side of HK Island, or TST/Kowloon, depending on your definition of close.

By the way, do you have your visa situation sorted out? As an unmarried partner you would not normally be able to take up residence in HK.

thank you for the website.
As for our visa,, NOpe we haven't got it sorted , does this mean we'll have to get married to be able to buy the property and for me to work? the company got my bf visa sorted , i just tagging along. if that's the case ,, look like i'll have to start planing a romantic candle light dinner soon!

Yes - you can't get a visa to reside in HK as an unmarried partner. If you are married to someone who has an Employment Visa then you will be granted a Dependent Visa which will allow you to work for anyone without any further paperwork.

Anyone can buy a property in Hong Kong - you don't need to have any residence status to do that.
