We have taken a fair bit of flack from some so called lovers of the game who are opposed to us, running free classifieds where people can well ... trade tickets at market rates. Simple economics ..

The Rugby Club(s) have a vested interest in making sure that there is a shortage -- because it boosts their membership. They additionaly sell a fair bit of the tickets in bulk to overseas travel agents and to various other commercial groups -- from what I've been told.

So, heres my proposal.

Keep aside 500-1000 tickets to be put on sale, on a live online auction 5 days before the game. 100 tickets auctioned every hour.

Whatever proceeds are collected above face value go to a nominated charity.

There has to be a better way of dealing with this issue, atleast until 2012.

It could get more sophisticated than that - I reckon we need a derivatives market. I could sell short at, say $2000 per ticket for delivery next Friday, confident in the knowledge that by then I could buy for $1500.

Or maybe not. But that's the beauty of the market - the real price would soon emerge if we had something like this rather than a lot of deals done in whispers.

The reason that the Union has passed the majority of tickets out through the various societies and teams is because it makes sense that those people who are active in the hong kong rugby community should get first crack at the 7's.

face it, if you want a ticket for the 7's join a club... otherwise don't whine about it... It only make sense that those of us who support the community year round (instead of on one weekend) will be guaranteed a ticket... otherwise get out of bed earlier next year... it your own fault

Yes and No....
Agree that rugby clubs should get tickets that is really fair.
However know a lot of ppl who gets tickets (myself included) just because we happen to work in the right industry (Banks, sponsors...)..so many actually get tickets but do not care at all....

anyway there isn't a good solution, there will always be ppl without tickets....

scrugby : all valid points .. but my problem is with old farts at the clubs who bitch and moan about people who make a profit on tickets. These are bankers, property tycoons... essentially folks who pay for their rugby club fees by engaging in profiteering all day...

I do think my way is the right way... phase the ticket sales and do a little bit of good for the community.

I've had a number of extra tickets fall into my lap this week, that i have redistributed at face value. It's unethical, for a start, to jack prices and its against the law... Sure you could make a quick buck or two, but its immoral... whats more selling above face value leads to this sort of discussion.... The union's current method (of first come first serve) is the only practical way of meeting the demand issues (untill we get a bigger stadium!).

And i fully support any action that the HKRFU and HK gov may take against scalpers... why do it? raising the value of the ticket that much only ends up hurting the true fan....
