grandcider is on a distinguished road
Windows Vista PCs

I've noticed that the desktop systems on sale at Fortress and other stores are still bundled with Windows XP. When will they be offered with Vista instead?

Any early impressions of the new OS?

I'm not surprised....most of the stuff people are running on their WinXP machines won't exactly work in Vista. So I guess a lot of folks are still holding out. I know I am..

I would hold out until atleast the first service pack for Vista is released. SP1 for XP fixed tons of bugs.

excellent advice, even waiting for sp2 is not a unreasonable, hehehe.

it seems as though the hardware market has not really come out with any solutions that take full advantage of vistas power features, and there is quite an impressive list. time will tell how impressive.

i had read hitachi (or samsung) was developing a harddrive (maybe its out now) with special performance features that work with vista on laptops.

wait until the hardware martket answers back hard.

Solid state hard drives are the way to go for mobile devices.

good point discobay i did not even think to mention it.

the new hdd's were termed "hybird hdd's" and are designed to optimize vistas "readydrive" and "readyboost" features.

more food for thought :
Current RAM Specs for running "Vista Home Premium" with the :
32bit version max of 6gigs Ram
64bit version max of 16gigs Ram

Dual Physical Processor Support (*note that you cannot run Dual Proscessors on the "Vista Home Basic Version").

If you are contemplating shopping for a MotherBoard you may want to consider the impact of these specs.

Microsoft know that the faster they release SP1, Sp2 the more sales they will get, regardless of how many things they actually fix and how stable it is.

Wait at least for SP3.
