Moving to HK in May, how much time to I need to find a home?

Hi
I'm moving (probably) to HK with my husband in May. We currently live in New Zealand and have a huge 4-bed house which costs next to nothing. I'm expecting a huge culture shock and feelings of claustrophobia...
How long will it take to find somewhere to rent? Can I rent for short periods (say, 3-6 months) until I get a feel of the place? Is there anywhere that has large appartments (or even houses?) which do not cost the earth? I have no kids and NO need to be near a school, don't mind commuting but love greenery and cleanness.. any suggestions?
I've looked at the classifieds on this site, but there don't seem to be many appartments being offered - are there better sites?

Minimum 12 months contracts here, I'd suggest you book yourself into a serviced apartment for a month or two first and then get yourself a feel of the place before you decide.

Here is a list of rental sites :

http://www.habitat-property.com/web%.../page/home.asp
http://www.landmarkasia.com.hk/
http://www.hongkonghomes.com/hong_ko.../eng/for_rent/
http://www.proway.com.hk

Where you'll be, how big it is, etc etc will all depend on your budget...

As Jimbo said, there are some nice serviced appartments in Hong Kong, where you can stay as long as you like until you find a place. One I recommend that's away from the city is De Ricou in Repulse Bay, because it's in front of a beach, and there are many convenient facilities : gym, pool, cafes, restaurants, supermarket, drycleaning, doctor, dentist etc. but there are also some good ones in town.

Would you get a better rental deal going to a small rental shop rather using someone with a snazzy website?
