| | | Learn by TV ??? I have just finished my 30th lesson on Mandarin, and before I continue with Intermediate Lesson 1...I want to start to watch some basic TV shows to practice my listening and understanding..
anyone know any good cartoons for kids...that would be very slow speaking...or basic language use (not difficult vocab) ....
it can be any countries cartoon....as long as i can find it today in China it should have mandarin dubbed....

| | | Not sure if this will be useful, I usually watch mandarin shows without subtitles to help me with my chinese. Having said that I can only speak and understand basics and not read at all | |

| | | what shows?
obviously i wouldn't be able to understand good shows like Lost or Heroes, but is there any kids shows that would use more basic language and vocab?
also..i just figured kids cartoons would be a bit more interesting than things like Barney, and would be easy enough for me to practice.
Once i complete level 30 of intermediate...i will start to watch the more normal TV shows i like (fingers crossed).

Sesame street would be the preferred in that case..
but right now i think the best option i can think of is blue's clues, but i would prefer a good cartoon, or a good cartoon movie, but none come to mind

Offhand, I can't think of what cartoons my nephews used to watch. Oh...Pokemon and Keroro, or something like that. Imagine you watching Sesame Street!!! It'll be hilarious!

| | | I used to watch Meteor Garden, a silly Taiwanese soap starring the boy band F4. The dialogue is not all that easy, but the plotlines are so predictable that you can follow what's going on. You can probably watch it on Youtube. | |

| | | Try localised Disney/pixar films I have watched films like Toy Story and Bugs life etc, in mandarin with or without subtitles. You might have to buy the "HK/China release" to get the optional mandarin voice-overs, but I found it good to be able to swap between mandarin voice and english subtitles to help with bits I didn't understand fully.
I understand that Southpark has a whole range of Taiwanese dubs, with localised gags and references. It might be a bit hard to follow, though.
Good luck | |
