China Tour group - English speaking guide

My brother's in-Law (Canadian) are coming to visit China. They are thinking of joining a tour group to tour cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, QingDao.... they will then stay at my place in HK to look at other travel opportunities around the region.....

I am wondering if anyone knows any reliable, reasonably priced travel agency in Hong Kong / China that will orgainize tour of China for English speaking people.

I know that local travel agency like wing-on, Hong Thai have very good priced tour group package but they are for local.....and in chinese only

thanks,
Kevin

Being a hater of tour groups, I couldn't recommend one (although CTS likely has English tours available, as I recall seeing their groups on the Mainland), but I can recommend you to a place to find one: The Oriental-List is a good mailing list (i.e. delivered to your inbox) on Mainland and related travel, with people posting reviews and enquiries on Mainland tours and travel experiences. As there are a few members in Hong Kong, I'm sure that you'll be able to get a recommendation or five out of them:

I'm actually looking to find a similar type of thing for family I have coming over around October. I need an English guided type tour covering much of mainland China that lasts at least a few weeks. If anyone knows of that as well it would be great.

Hopefully someone can help us both....

Thanks Hakuto for the info......will check it out later....
I went to the CTS site and cant believe the price that they are charging... For the same places that these tours go to, the local chinese tours are many times cheaper....

Just to let you know those wing on and hong thai tours are not just for locals. I have taken three tours myself to Beijing, Shanghai and Xian at very reasonable prices. On each of these tours I have met other tourists from Canada and Australia who were also using Hong Kong as a base for short trips to China. Whilst of chinese decent, some of these people had very limited or no chinese language skills whatsoever.

You may want to consider sending your relatives on one of these tours along with a paid translator/english speaking tour guide. I haven't tried this myself however I can imagine that it may work out quite cost effective if you can manage to organise it. Goodluck.

Try the China Highlights, what i like is that the person i was dealing with was very efficient in replying to my emails / queries. He always reply with in minutes.

My inlaws are coming for holidays & I just booked a trip to Beijing & Xian thru China Highlights Travel (i think they are affiliated with CITS - note too sure tho') I paid
US$5,595 for 4 pax all incl. in 5* hotel for a 3 days trip. I requested for an English / Italian speaking guide & I ask them to provide us a dedicated guide just for the 4 of us (still waiting for their reply maybe they will put additional charge)

And in June, husband & I are travelling again, this time we want to visit Mongolia, Tibet & Nepal, we have to divide & maximize our 15 days, the best we can do)...Anyone interested, come & join us

Good News!!!!!!!! We have a private vehicle & a private guide......Exclusively for us ....
I think you have to ask & let them know your requirements & demands

Also if you wish to have a guide who speaks your language you have to request so they can assign one for you.

We ask for Italian & they said YES!
