buying a bed as soon as we land!

the day after we arrive we need to buy a bed big enough for my husband.
he is 6"2'. my company offered us a bed 5"x4" which is too small, so we said we'd buy one... but we need it as soon as we get there! (going to crash on a crappy inflatable the first night)

can anyone recommend where to go, and the address, to get a queen/kind bed + mattress, and is same day/next day delivery possible?

ikea any good over there? anywhere else? are they easy to get to/find?

i like sleeping

tsuiwah will become famous soon enough
good advice from freeier

rooms and lifts can be a very tight squeeze, unless you are living in a luxury buildings

also expect to pay through the nose for a good bed

IKEA is always an option. Once you are in Causeway Bay, you can visit the 9th floor of SOGO and check out their selection

Next day delivery is HIGHLY unlikely though

I really don't like the beds at Ikea, and they are also more expensive in HK than other Ikeas. Most of the prices at Ikea are cheaper in HK, but not the beds.

Check out all the Japanese department stores; Sogo, Uny, Jusco, etc. Although I don't know if you'll ever find a bed that is over 6'2" - your husband may just have to dangle his feet off the end of the bed like I do

It is madness to attempt to get off a plane and move into a bare apartment the same day. Your husband's company should put you up in a hotel for a couple of weeks while you decide on the area you want to live in and find an apartment.

Go To Pricerite. Almost op. Ikea in Causeway Bay. They do a long bed that until about a month ago I thought was long enough for my 6 3 bf but it turns out his feet do hang over a bit. They are good for doing quick delivery and installation but we are still talking 3-5 days minimum. Maybe you can buy from their website pticerite.com.hk in advance. (You need to register to see the prices)

get yourself an inflatable mattress and sleep on that for afew days while you get your stuff sorted out. Pointless rushing around for the sake of a few days, and risk making a purchase you may find hard to get a refund on.

its not my husbands company, its mine. i dont think they are obliged to buy us a special bed just because he is tall. and the apartment isnt bare - its furnished, sans bed.

obviously, i will have room measurements.

i worked for ikea for years, i was part of the group that launched their online shopping facility in western australia, so buying in advance from ikea hk and arranging delivery online is no issue for me, i know what to expect - but local opinion is always good to hear before ordering.
i know which ikea beds are made of low quality wood and which ones are long lasting. i dont care about the price much.

i just assumed there was a hk Flat-Packed-Furniture equivalent. i'll check out this 'pricerite', thanks larac. i'll register.

thankfully, we found a very good and very compactable inflatable bed on the weekend which is good enough to use for weeks and is small enough to take on the plane. im so impressed by current inflatable bed technology!

Beware Perth_Girl bedrooms here can be tiny - in our last place which was spacious by HK Island standards the room only just fit the bed so seeing the room first is a good plan and many places offer zero storage so a bed with drawers underneath or one that lifts up to store stuff inside the base might be a good idea. Pricerite operates very similar to Ikea just not as much stuff - we've bought heaps from there as we found it was often better value for money and delivery and installations weren't extra unlike Ikea (depends how much you buy from pricerite) and we liked the darker colour that Ikea don't offer. Also you obviously know ikea well ao probably know their sizing is somewhat unique ie: their duvet covers and inner go together as a pair - you can't mix and match with other brands so not sure if their beds are the same. Good luck with your move.

Expatriate has pissed of a few people
I bought a long bed at IKEA about 10 years ago. It seems they only have this length as a single bed with frame. Mattresses are just 6 feet long at IKEA.

However, the staff there is really quick to point out your mistakes, like: "We never sold this kind of bed you have, therefore you won't find any fitting sheet here. You made a mistake."

You can get furniture in any style and size handmade and delivered to your place at the Horizons Plaza in Ap Lei Chau. They have about 27 floors full of furniture, carpet, bedding, curtain and similar shops. Each floor the size of a football field.
