I applied for a job over the internet.

Had a few telephone interviews, and managed to get a job doing IT contracting in the Oracle field.

However, the job was not for me, as it was too far from where I live and the role wasnt great, but because I was tied into my contract, there wasnt much I could do, as my recruiter was sponsoring me to come to Hong Kong.

However, managed to finish that contract (thank God) and then found another contract which is 5 mins from my apartment which is great! The role is better, pay is better, team is better etc...

All's well that ends well......

sort of an internal transfer.
the company that owns the company i work for shut our office down, everyone but me was made redundant.
i guess you could say i was a fixed asset they couldnt bear to part with :P

they made applying for the visa SO easy, but the waiting period was insane, because i dont actually have any qualifications, only experience and passion... which is hard to justify on paper.

my husband will be looking for work from hong kong, we're not sure how well that wil go. . . *crosses fingers*
he works in transport logistics, advanced scheduler (should have no trouble?)

sold everything, severed all ties in Canada, and came over cold (luckily had relatives living here already). Mailed out 50 CVs for teaching, started in about 3 wks...3 yrs later the rest is hist. Marrying a local girl, starting a new life....

It's really interesting to find out how you guys get a job here.

After trying for 4 years, I'm beginning to think the chances are close to zero. Well, for someone like me who's applying from elsewhere. BTW, I'm in the electronics engineering field.

Nutta,
You give me some hope... lol

perth_girl,
You're an asset aren't you...

timklip,
Wish I could what you did...
