The Chinese culture is backwards, so that's why HK is getting worse year by year, since 1997.

HK is not a good place to be, unless you already are rich or get transfered here by an employer. And still, the HK Chinese are not exactly friendly to foreigners, although I was told by them that "HK needs fresh overseas blood".

I really don't have to work, so being unemployed for the past 4 years wasn't too bad. But I'd love to be more busy with something that makes sense.

BUT still, I am about to leave HK and go elsewhere. I am really sick and tired of this place.

You sound something hit the point. Although not all are dislike foreigners but basically I can feel they are having very strong feeling that they are "HK" people and other people are not better than them without looking around in the global competition.

I worked in a regional HQ office and facing competition from our regional support offices in China and india. However, my management are rather spending more time in office politics(fighting with other departments and playing with own colleagues) rather than spending time to pull us ahead in the competition.

Actually what industry do you think HK are still having advantages other than finance? logistic is gone, tourisms almost gone and consumer goods trading is half dead.......

People are just interested in all kind of speculations in stock market, property markets. Their property price is rediculously high, a small cage will ask for HK$3million....I wonder how many working class can afford that in HK or they spend the rest of the life to feeding the property developers...

Links: you nailed it. seems like majority of the hkers are feeding the property developers. last year, a run up of stock markets. this year, analysts are calling for 20-30% increase in property prices. the speculation on these assets would continue until the day the global recession arrives around 09 or 10.

Privatized the gains. Socialized the risks.
let the beat goes on!

I just feel that the job fields in HK are on a norrow down trend, many jobs positions are moving up north to china and it slowly shrinking without notice of the people out there.

I have a talk with a friend in recruitment filed not long ago, she just said that the types of roles is narrow down and the type of industries is also narrow down in HK. it will still have some supporting roles in trading, manufacturing but the chinese are filling in these roles quietly in china with cost, cultural and geographical advantages slowly.

most of the better jobs in HK are in finance and property field nowadays. some other professions like doctors and lawyers are also in tight competition for the new entrants in the market.

the speculations in stock market and property also makes a lot of people to lost interest in work, most notably the fresh grades from university. Many are tried to work as full time investment player.

i cant conclude much of that, but i can feel the atmosphere here is abit towards dangerous zone. Chinese governments are having some big projects going on which will further reduce the hk competitiveness.

The only main strength here is the open for monetary flow, other advantages seems to be neutralized by the china mainland cities a lot in the past 5 years.

re

I currently work for a multi-national company... if I were to move to HK, I'd simply ask for a transfer to our HK office (though on the downside, if I'm the one who asks for a transfer, I'm not going to be in a position to ask for a moving package... so I'm trying to convince the powers that be in my company about how great it'd be to have a native english speaker in our HK offices who's already integrated with the corporate social structure )
