being aggressive is one thing, but being overly aggressive might simply not be liked by asians or chinese..

being able to handle that part of inferior complex of the boss is also part of EQ.. figuring out how to move ahead..

i am not convinced everyone is like that. its easy to put a blame to the system but it won't solve any problem..

and one last comment to the person that's waiting for the cfa result, forget about it. there are just too many of them with a cfa. i doubt i will ever put the tag on my namecard even if i get it... too troublesome and people wld probably find it pretentious
Haha, thanks for referring me as "fairly smart". Well, i did figure out the situations and make changes. infact i reworked my cv with softer words and remove some key strentgh out.

I got a job interview recently and the MD of the company met me face to face so that finally secure a job, but i will be spending most of my time in China since their are expanding and having business transformation there.

What i learned is to meet the right people.I know most of the time we dont really have a chance to meet the real decision maker up there and the bottom people will be a barrier which we need to get rid with fall back strategy. But as an expats who seeking job here, we have to show our best a difference if not they will just simply conclude that a local will do and do not need us.Its kind of contradiction that I am still trying to figure up the best way solve it.

regarding the CFA.Many people around regard CFA is a very significant advantage to get in Ibank line and there is crowd flowing in to take the exams recently. It makes the CFA become just a basic qualifications. It think the major advantage is still the reputable University and Ibank background.

sometime i feel people hire on the basis of perception about candidate's country, caste, sex, religion etc rather than his talent.

Actually i sensed the perception on the cultural, and many local are reluctant to english speaking colleague and highly prefer to speak in cantonse in day to day dealing...

"country" or nationality could be something, as i know, those countries like US, UK they will admire but if you from taiwan and Singapore or other southeast asia countries then they will regard you as "one more level lower".

Talent, in most business environment they dont really want you to be talented but manageable, so try to make yourself "manageable" infront of them and maybe it can helps

I thinks it getting more and more barriers for overseas people to land a job here now. Perhaps we can share our experiences and thinkings to help to figure out something........

but the econ of hk is shrinking even though the share market is going up like nobody business, the local people are losing jobs and having pay cut. their latest Gini coefficient are showing worsened wealth gap.....The local business sector are actually struggling to fight with China cities. But i think HK is a good place to stay but not for career building.

How can you say its a good place to stay. ( no offence, just want to convince myself that i should stay here).

No career development, High Rent/ House Rate, Low salaries and High Cost of living.

then why to stay here?

For the sake of city leaving...probably its one of the best in Asia. the mix of east and west culture and you get trendy stuff here with reasonable price.

But maybe its not for everyone. For peolple who struggling to land a job here i think its one of the reasons..........

However, life in hk could be much more better if their government policy did not sited the property developers so much......

If you're in a very senior position with an attractive package, you'd consider HK as a good place to stay & work.
