I personally wouldn't use jobsdb or monster as they're full of the mcjobs type of roles.

However, managed to finish that contract (thank God) and then found another contract which is 5 mins from my apartment which is great! The role is better, pay is better, team is better etc...
All's well that ends well...... | Same here, just replace Oracle with sybase and that's how I got mine, also contracting.
I'm happy in my role though, the company has been very good and the work fairly interesting (as much as finance work can be interesting anyway). Going to leave HK in a few months though, but that's not related to the job just the place

| | | I do noticed that a lot of jobs posted on Jobsdb are by headhunters. Unfortunately, I do not really have a choice but to use those websites.
Anyway, thanks all for the replies. In the polls, it seems that there's still a chance to get work applying overseas. But maybe in my field, the chances are lower but what can I do but to keep trying...

I know from personal experience that it is hard to get a job anywhere without being physically in the location. I have trouble getting a job in Canada right now even though I am a citizen there because I am located here right now. Not sure how prevailing this fact it is, but it takes precedence in my circumstance.

| | Ya, I'm not in HK now. That's why I think my chances are way low. Not being to attend interviews etc. I think it does puts any potential employers off even if they are interested.
Unfortunately, I just can't dump everything and go there to take a chance.

| | | Not being in HK Have to agree that it's next to impossible to get a job without being in HK. Unless you have some ridiculously specialized IB experience or some such, anyway.
Been trying for two years to land a job in HK from abroad. The second year I even had a work permit, but was only able to get two interviews (for actual positions, not counting chats with agents).
So in the end I had to make the decision to just resign my job and come over. Been here for nearly a month now, but I'm still one of the ones who voted "Still Searching".
Regarding JobsDB, I have had some response from applying to the jobs advertised there, but I have to agree with Jimbo that a lot of the jobs on there seem targeted at the underpaid mass of local minimum-wage slaves.

| | | Just a personal comment on this situation..unsure if its true...but it really does help if you have good personal referals or that you are physically in the particular country if the job you apply is there... | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8.
