| | | would have thought the average was far higher than it appears. I haven't done the actual calculation but the salary seems quite low to me for expats. | |

| | | It's a very skewed sample - most of the people earning big money probably don't have the time or inclination to come on sites like this. | |

| | | I am actually not surprised at all. There are thousands of foreigners in HK who came here not on expat packages, but on their own. For many of them, even 20K is a very decent salary. I would assume that those are typical users of expat websites.
25K in our company is a normal salary even for foreigners (on packages, sent to HK by our company). Not everybody is in banking!

| | | And remember that by far the biggest number of expats here earn less than $4000 per month, so I suspect that covers most of the 16 in the bottom category. | |

| | | Not surprising - it actually does match the profiles we'd expect to see from expats in 2007-2008, in Hong Kong (and also folks visiting this site).
1) Not everyone here is an overseas national. About 20% of our traffic consists of local returnees - typically the younger overseas educated chinese person who is on their first or second job.
2) We get a very wide variety of people visiting us - not everyone is a banker or senior manager - we get designers, teachers, social workers, interns, housewives/husbands...
3) There are several folks who also do make that amount of money and do post here, and post often... but are seriously not going to participate in a poll like this.
(I know I've not answered the poll ... )

| | | I've also noticed that many expats I've met tend to show off by comparing titles/ jobs and building/area they live... seems kinda pathetic. To be honest, after we moved here, we've had to avoid the LKF / midlevel scene... it's such a tiny and closed circle/community - same faces every weekend at the bars etc - it can get really gossipy/clique-ish not to mention suffocating. I mean there's a whole city out there to discover, why choose to only hang out every weekend in the same old strip of bars...? So I'm not surprised when I hear feedback of how expats like to show off and compare income/stats. I also haven't answered this poll either, no need to use it for my own ego-boost ...the question is kinda pointless since pay is so industry-specific.
