Hong Kong Sevens Party - Friday, 30th March

While we've been doing happy hours and other events, a *LOT* of our members have been asking us to throw a big party -- a time for both the new and old members of GeoExpat to party, make new friends and re-connect with others. Our problem has been finding a suitable venue which can accomodate over 300 people.

Now we have one.. the Sevens Village!

Details:

Day: Friday March 30th
Time: 7:30PM onwards at the designated area

Location: Sevens Village at the India Recreation Club in Happy Valley. Right next to the Hong Kong Staduim where the Rugby Sevens is organised.

Address: 63, Caroline Hill Road
Sookunpoo Valley
Hong Kong

Map: Click here

Contact Number: We'll send a mobile number to folks who have RSVPed, incase they get lost in the crowd and need to find us.

We will be officially meeting at the designated area shown on the map. There will be appropriate signage on the tables in that area.

Do reply to this thread and let us know if you're planning on joining us -- so that we can get an estimate (the last big event had 300+ members walk through the door).

Answers to Questions:

Cost of Entry: Entrance to the Sevens Village is free before the final whistle / end of play on all days. Once the day's games end, the cost is $100.

How do I buy Food / Drinks: Pay cash for tokens and use them to buy food / drinks.

Is there a seating area: Yes - There is seating in the Sevens Village, garden furniture and the like as well as carpeted floor. In the Big Top there will be seating on Red Bull bar tables but not too much as it is a big dancing and milling event!

What is the Big Top all about: The Big Top is connected to the Rugby Village and will have a DJ spinning tunes, the Red Bull Wigwam, A live band playing 70s', 80s', 90s' tunes (yes, we're growing old...). A huge video screen will add to the festivities.

Smoking / Non Smoking: Waiting for details. But keep in mind .. with a 1000+ rugby fans.. who knows.

RugbyVillage is on a distinguished road
Hi, as KIA has pointed out, the organisers of the Rugby Village and geoexpat have come to an agreement regarding the events happening for those who do not have tickets for inside the stadium or who just want to experience the excitement of the event without wanting to go inside.
For the last few years there has been an area opposite the stadium which has been utilised for various parties and events. This will be the case again this year with three main events which may, or may not, be of interest to you. These are:

1. The Rugby Village
This is the pub of the Sevens and is on the tennis courts directly opposite the stadium. The village opens at 8am when the first match starts and there will be big breakfasts as well as Bloody Mary's and other drinks available. On one of the walls will be a huge screen with a live feed from inside the stadium so you will see the rugby as it happens. Between matches there will also be live microwave feeds from the village as the Kukri girls will be dancing and there will be live interviews with people such as Jonah Lomu, Gavin Hastings, Francois Peinard and several others. Kukri, Gilbert and a few others will have stalls there for merchandise and we are hoping that ToysRUs and Hasbro will come through with giant Scrabble/Jenga etc as well as KBox and/or Playstation. The village will stay open all night but once the matches finish it becomes part of the....

2....Valley Big Top Party
Once the games have finished (+/- 9pm on friday and +/- 8pm Sat/Sun) the Valley Big top Party starts. This is the wild and crazy party with a DJ flying in from Dubai as well as a band called 9th State playing. We get between 2-4,000 people depending on the night and it is mad! We have a coupon system wherein you buy coupons for HKD50 when you get in which covers drinks and food. drinks are kept simple with a choice of beer, Vodka Red Bull, Dark Rum and Coke, Gin and Tonic and Sea Breeze. Food is burgers, hot dogs etc.
It is HKD100 entry and runs until late. Entry includes the Rugby Village and vice versa.

3. The Bollinger Champagne Tent
This is the place to see and be seen! On Friday, Saturday and Sunday- after the final whistle- the Bollinger Champagne Tent will kick off with live Afro-beat funk from Nude and a DJ while you can order Bollinger champagne and Grey Goose vodka by the bottle. There will also be other drinks but it's nit for the lager crowd!
Booking is in advance so I will work with Geoexpat to make sure that the invite and booking form are available.

I hope to see you all there and if you have any questions- drop me a PM or ask me in the forum if you think it's relevant to the group.

And no, I can't arrange tickets for the stadium for you!!

We'll start the signup sometime closer to the event.

Also -- please no emails addresses in the forums. Never know where they end up.

A reply is good enough. We'll send everyone who replies more info on when and where we expect to meet / party on Friday.

As of now, we'll meet in the Rugby Village around 7pm and move to the Big Top ($100 cover charge) as soon as it opens.

I have to work out some logistics with the organisers in terms of having a designated area in the Big Top on Friday night.
