Moving to HK in a month. Needs advice on finding a place to live!

Hi Everyone,

I'm moving to HK this coming August for an 18 month assignment. I have been reading this tread for the fast few days and I'm hoping you guys can give me some advice on whether I should rent a furnished/serviced or an unfurnished apartment, and what area to live in.

I will be paying for my own rental expenses, but my salary allows me to pay up to about HK$15K per month for rental. Also, I will be working in Time Square, Causeway Bay. I'm hoping for a relative short commute (15 min approximately) and prefer a less congested and clean neighborhood.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

You can try Happy Valley area. Not too far away from Times square but quite a lot of expat living there as well.

Thumbs up Moving from Aust to HK

Hi Queccy,

How are you going with the apartment hunting?

Just wondering whether you are up for sharing accomodation and the associated costs with another expat.

I am Chinese (Australian Citizen), mid 20s & female. Speak fluent Cantonese and English. I will be relocating from Australia to HK in October for 2 year appointment.

Similar to you I work at Times Square Building and assume your choice of accomodation is within budget & easy reach to your workplace.

Let me know if you are interested. It will also be nice to meet you in person considering we are both expats and working in same area. Kind of like the blind leading the blind but it will be fun regardless!

Regards

Neatsy

Hi Neatsy,

Thanks for your message. I'm open to sharing, but since this is the first time I'm in HK, I'm expecting some visits from friends and family (truethfully, not really to visit me, but more of visiting HK :-P). I'm afraid having so many people coming in and out would be too much hassel for you.

I'm not sure exactly when I will be arriving HK since I'm still waiting for my visa to come. However, I'm expecting to arrive no later than early September.

I'm Chinese (U.S.) and in my mid-20s as well. Fluent in Mandarin and English, and will be in HK for a 18-24 months assignment. It would be nice to meet you in person as well. Definitely stay in touch. You can email me at jtian@lucent.com if you prefer.

Cheers,
Queccy

I hope you're not here to work on the AsiaNetcom account, otherwise your stay might be somewhat shorter than anticipated

living advice?

Hi,

Happy Valley is a very nice area, price is very reasonable, but when it is racing day, the traffic is a bit crowded and plus Happy Valley is not close to MTR at all.
In Causeway Bay the air pollution is very bad and very very crowded.
You should look for Tai Hang Road, along the Tai Hang Road it will lead you to the mid level in Causeway Bay.

Berryplucker,

I take that AsiaNetcom is out of business or is about to be.
