I'm looking for places with a good choice of long evening gowns and/or elegant cocktail dresses. Don't have time to get anything made - and want to be able to try on there and then. Any recommendations please?

Depends on your budget really. I picked up a couple of evening/cocktail dresses recently for a music video shoot. The model was suupposed to bring her own wardrobe but informed us last minute that she would be unable to do so. So the evening before the shoot we went traipsing through the markets looking for elegant but inexpensive gowns. I picked up 3 dresses. 2 in CWB and 1 TST. Carnavaron Road. Can't remember the name of the place - it's a back street entrance 3 or 4 storey building and most of the shops are packed with evening wear type of gowns. I'll check my notes tomorrow and PM you the details.

There are shops on Pedder Building in Central (above Shanghai Tang) that sells evening gowns and cocktail dresses. Also, if you don't mind bargain hunting, the shops in CWB beside Mitshukoshi sell some of this too, you might need to go right at the back because they would only have winter stuff on display.
