I've tried Ferndale and while they are good, the kennels are VERY small. My cat was in a "two level" cage that was a fraction of the size of kennel used in Canada and the US. He also got a very bad case of "cat flu" from another cat while in there with the resultant vet visits and antibiotics (it has recurred twice since then). That is a risk any time you put your pet in boarding. While dogs benefit from kennel care, cats are territorial and happier being at home with occasional care than in a new place with people on staff. I would recommend a good, reliable cat sitter. That person will come in once a day, play with, feed your pets and look after the litterbox and send you e-mail updates. Your cats will be happier and healthier!

Angry Cat Boarding

I can not recommend Ferndale, they were friendly at the start but when I spoke to them on the phone after my cat came back really sick, they were so rude. They told me it was impossible that my cat got sick there and they told me if I wasn't happy I could just not use them again. I was so shocked by their attitude. Also, I would almost say that their marketing tactics are misleading advertisement since the cages are not at all as nice as they claim. The three levels they boast about is made up of two "levels" that are about five inches tall and one level that's a regular cage size. Even though their service is convinient, I just can't recommend them. The other option Kennel Van Dego seems a bit better but still not half as good as getting someone to come to your house. Since I've been so disappointed with the boarding facilities here, I've decided to leave my cat with my dad who lives far away when I travel. At least it's better than leaving him in these awful facilities. The facilities are much worse than that of the local quarantine.

We have had good experiences with Ferndale (for boarding dogs, not cats). The staff were friendly and good with the animals, you could tell they really liked them. Dogs get a lot of exercise, which is great (and rare) for a commercial boarding facility in HK. My cousin boards her cat there over the holidays (has done for several years now) and books adjoining cat kennels to give her extra room. I've never heard her complain either.

Ferndale

I'm glad some people have had better experiences with Ferndale. Actually, I've used Ferndale a couple of times myself, the first few times, it was okay; it was the last time when my cat got sick that changed everything for me. As mentioned, the people who worked there were friendly until I complained about my cat coming back sick. And my cat came back pretty sick. He had never been sick before so I was really upset. If they had just apologized, I think I wouldn't have been so unhappy with them. But they just became really hostile and defensive. Still can't recommend them. I guess if one has no other option and doesn't mind risking their cats getting sick, they might like Ferndale.

Bonnie

I had a few bad experiences with Bonnie - I will not use her again. I have heard good things about Wish You Were Here.

Pet sitting

Hello I am moving to Lantau next week (Lok Tai Tung /Mui wo) and would appreciate any jobs that are going in that area. I am a great lover of all animals especially cats and have had them all my life. excellent references available- to prove trustworthy.

Bonnie is no longer providing cat sitting services.

We are using another person who actually stays at our place, he and his partner. They stay in the spare room, feed my 2 cats and looks after the place. The place is always spotless when we leave. They are more expensive than Ferndale (I believe) but I prefer to keep my cats in their own environment as 1 will frett anyway so at least he's in a familiar environment.
