| | | PS3 in HK I'm going to HK for a week in March and I thougtht I'd pick up a PS3 as they are literally half the price of the UK PS3.
Can anyone recommend a good place to get a bargain, or places to avoid? Is it possible to get the 20gb, without any bundles or anything? Are they plentiful or scarce?
Is it safe to walk through Hong Kong with a PS3?

Not that you'd want to; the thing weighs like 20 lbs

| | | Man, I can only afford the 20gb. By scarce do you mean.. non existant? Or should you be able to pick one up if you try out a couple shops?
I heard Mong Kok has plenty of stores that are also pretty cheap - maybe I can pick up a 20gb there.
But yeah it's gonn a be a pain dragging the thing around - I'll get it just before I fly out at the end of the week.

| | | Spend a day looking around, you might get lucky. 60 GB's are even becoming rare, so you might want to increase your budget or you may not get anything while you're here unless you buy a Japanese console. | |

Golden Computer Arcade in SSP is going to have the lowest prices in the SAR. Go in there, ask around for 20GB and bargain with the shop keepers. Look around and get the best deal. Somewhere may have them, or if not bargain on the 60GB/go to a store like Broadway etc and pay the higher price for the 20GB

| | It's rather confusing, there seem to be four options:
1) HK PS3 20gb
2) HK PS3 60gb
3) Japanese PS3 20gb
4) Japanese PS3 60gb
And each of those 4 options have a different price depending on where you shop.
What I'm trying to do is find out how to get any one of these 4 for the lowest price - I don't care whether my PS3 is HK, Japanese, 20gb or 60gb - I just want a PS3 and to pay as little for it as possible
I'll be bringing it back to the UK so I'll void the warranty anyway.

We aren't going to get any more specific than one building to shop in. Not sure what else you are asking. The shop keepers will know which option out of the four is cheapest.

| | | It's the supposed inavailability of the 20gb models and the apparently cheaper Japanese models that are available some places that is confusing me.
Is a 20gb Japanese model cheaper than a 20gb HK? Are there only certain places you can find Japanese models?
Of course, I appreciate you've given me a nice plan, and I'll try it, it's just I'm not used to so many options for a single product, and having never been to HK, I'm anxious to know what I'm doing before hand.
Anyway, cheers a lot for your help.

| | | Do as much research as you can beforehand, so that you won't get stiffed like some poor sod did today in ssp.
He bought an Xbox 360 game and asked if it was compatible with his U.K version, It wasn't but they pretended to phone and check and told him it was.
He will be in for a suprise when he returns to U.K.

| | The Japanese models are cheaper than HK, but will not have a warranty. If you're leaving HK with it, that is irrelevant. The other difference is the Japanese models will be the Japanese DVD Region, where HK will be Region 3.
I'm pretty sure any 20GB you come across will be Japanese, but not 100% sure - this changes week by week (and day by day often). Look around, know what you're getting, and go from there.
If you're exporting, you will want the Jap version if going back to USA or Canada, and the HK version if going back to UK. Although I have heard that the PS3 actually has a dual voltage Power Supply and is just not labeled, I haven't tested this myself so don't be so sure |
