March Thailand Trip - Interested?

mid-20s, female, from U.S.A. (currently living in HK), Planning a 7-10 day trip to Thailand in mid-March and looking for prospective travel buddies, which greatly decrease the CST of such a venture by spliting double rooms, sharing transportation, etc. Right now I'm thinking of a combo between some of the typical stuff and a few upscale extras, culture with a good mix of R&R.
If interested, but March won't work for you, drop me a line anyway, since I will be taking similar trips to other smart locales in April and May, as well.

I haven't heard anything about killings. Can you give me any more info or news sites to check?

be careful

check the local hongkong embassy / general consulate warnings and your home embassy / general consulate warnings. you can find them listed on the web. Also keep up on the news, most of the trouble is in the south of Thailand.

US Dept of State :
http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_p...a_tw_1168.html

British Commonwealth :
http://www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/Front?...=1013618386505

Interestingly enough the US site does not warn about Thailand travel but the British site has posted a current warning.

Yes interested

Hello Backpackj,

I am a 22 year old female from Hong Kong.
I am planning a trip to Thailand, mostly wanting to stay at Koh Samui. I want to go mid May 07.
I just came back from Koh Samui and it was just beautiful. I loved it. I am planning to be there to go to the full moon party too. I plan to stay in thailand for 10 days.

Please email me if you are interested.

Mikel

I'm leaving for Phuket on Friday morning. Will be back Tuesday night. My first trip to Thailand since I was two! I can't wait Not gonna be a cheap trip though. Gonna be staying in a pretty upscale 5-star resort...at least I'll be comfortable...

Well, I'm heading to Bangkok tonight. I'll visit Chiang Mai (some small northern villages) and Koh Chang (island off of Trat) over the next ten days. I'm sure you will have a blast in Phuket. Everyone raves about the Holiday Inns there and the Laguna Resort area.

I get updates on trouble spots every day and Thailand has been coming up recently, even Bangkok. I think the chances of trouble in Bangkok will recede as this holiday period ends and the larger problem will remian on the Malaysian border.
We were just there a couple of weeks ago. Had a great time in Bangkok. Went to the Bridge on the River Kwai and Tiger Temple (the one where the monks are raising tigers and you can have pictures taken, etc....)>
My only warning would be Bangkok is already hot. Temps were 100 F every day we were there.

That is kind of hard to answer without knowing what part of Bangkok you will be staying in, and what type of atmosphere you expect for a spa. The prices will range from extremely cheap to rather expensive (i.e. a cheap shop with absolutely no frills might be 60-100 baht for 30 minutes-1 hour, a very nice, upscale 5-star spa can run 4000 baht for a 2-hour massage). When someone is going to be rubbing oils on me, I tend to go higher-end because cheap oils can give you a rash or other skin irritation. Also, I find it worth the extra to have a very comfortable massage bed and shower to rinse off in, especially as Bangkok is extremely hot right now, and if you are walking around with massage oil that will only make you sweat more.
Hope that helps.
