Fixing a Lai See Faux Pas

Someone gave my son a lai see today, and I failed to reciprocate because I forgot to bring my lai see packets as I rushed out for a grocery run. . . how do I fix it without making it awkward for all parties? Please advise!

According to a HK-local friend, you can give/receive lai sees within 15 days from the first day of the CNY. So, as what KIA said -- it's not too late.

Well, she gave my son two lai see packet of $20 each (I don't understand why she gave two lai see). In this case since she has two kids, do I give 2 X $20 per kid or a $50 per kid?

Two lai see means double fortune/happiness etc hence the reason why, Also it could mean one from her and the other from her husband.

Double up for sure and don't whatever you do put in old notes and or coins.

Okay,

Duration of send Lai See (Red Pocket)

First 15 days of CNY, Lunar Calendar 1st to 15th

When give one and when give 2??

for example
if i get marry, my wife and I go to my brother's home, my wife and I both give my brother's son one, total two.

but even if my wife don't go, my brother and his son know me and my wife, so i should give 2 pockets to his child.

When my wife go back to office, she gave her colleagues one for each, coz her colleagues don't know me.

Later, she go to her best friend's home, while that friend knows both of us, so my wife gives two.

She represent me or I represent her to send pockets.

So if I met her best friend later, I don't have to send pocket to her again.....

Who you should give???

According to the relationship chart

For relatives

U don't have to send to ur senior, such as, father, mother, uncles, anties, or even ur elder brother sisters.....
all those born earlier than you, u don't have to pay....unless those strange situation, nephews or nieces who is born earlier than you , sorry you have to send to them....

vice versa, if your uncle is younger than you but you r older than him, according to the chart, u don't have to give to them..

for married situation(suitable for divorced too...)

my father has to give me even i get marrried
my elder brother and her wife have to give me even we get married

for relative, must be double pockets, unless divorced,

for friends, colleagues

all ur friend are count the same "grade" w/ you, so if the get married, no need to send them, but if not get married, send them

one or two decided by the above explaination.

Several students' parents have given me Lai See. Do I give their kids one or two packets? I was planning on giving them two each...
