It will be quite tough to see anything, since the container terminal is not open to public.
The only chance is to rent a boat I think...
I do have a small boat, but the sea is too rough to bring it all the way through Victoria Harbour.

2600 passengers on the way to the peak... wow.... and the passengers are all quite rich, so they dont want to travel in citybusses I assume.... so 52 busses heading to town... this must also be impressive...

If anyone is up for an outing to view it that day, count me in. I was speaking to some-one last week who is getting to (at least hoping very hard to) board her as she has a friend sailing on her. I think she said the passangers are all heading to the peak for sightseeing that day.

It wasn't the carparks they locked but the gates to the botanical gardens in which many people were in to watch the fireworks from. Most people got out of the park in time before they locked the gates and found somewhere else to watch the fireworks from, but those who didn't, had to climb their way out! They also cancelled many trains and buses "for security reasons" and so the thousands of people that had commuted into the city were scrambling to find transport home. On top of that there was a car accident on the Harbour Bridge so basically it was crazy from all sides. I was staying in the city, so I was thankful to be able to walk home from the fireworks...;

Hong Kong prepares Spectacular Farewell for Queen Mary 2

In short, she's setting sail at 7pm and sailing through the harbour at 8pm tomorrow, Wednesday 28th...

Should be an impressive sight - can't get out during the day but will have to try and catch it going through the harbour.

Sydney sounds like a monumental balls-up!

Great to read this, thanks.
"History in the making".... maybe a bit too much!

So the boat approaches the harbour from the Cyberport area, right?

Right - that's exactly what it means. She's docking on the western side of the peninsula, then sailing out of HK waters through the harbour from west to east - as far as I know...
