| visa extension looking for an alternative to the "visa run" for my girlfriend. She is near the end of her second 90 day visa after a trip to Singapore and given the suspicious PO last time, dont think she will make it through customs again. She would like to study in HK, but has not begun the application process, which will take longer than the terms of her permitted stay. We do not qualify under the spouse/ dependant visa. Given the circumstances, I cant think of a valid reason to extend the terms of her tourist visa. Can anyone offer a plusible case to make with immigration?? What would be considered a reasonable timeframe to request - 1 mo, 3 mo, 6mo? Also, how much time would one spend out of HK in hopes to re-enter without raising eyebrows? Thanks for any advice |

| My understanding is extending the visa can be really tough. Especially if Immigration is already suspicious. I would suggest her leaving the country for minimum 2 weeks, month if possible and then try to re-enter. BTW next time try to avoid doing visa runs at last minute. As a tip it is much better to go out of the country maybe 2 months in. That way it doesn't look like you are doing a run, rather traveling around the region. |
