What do you know about emule?

Who has used or knows of emule? From what I've found it is a competitor to BT but is it widely used and is it safe? The user interface looks slick and remiiscent of limewire (atleast my memory of it).

discobay : I've not used it .. I have gotten pretty attached to utorrent -- nice web interface that allows you to control a remote PC which may act like a download server.

As far as i am concerned BT is way better than emule in every single way.
Emule is filled to the rim with fake shares, drm files, and other garbage.

BT or DC is the way to go though there is hardly any DC users here in Asia for some reason

Thanks for the feedback guys. Have given emule a try but after a few days the (moderate-size) downloads are still running!
What is DC?

i switched to emule when edonkey got closed down mid-2006. i found it quite good compared to edonkey but i can't compare it to bittorrent as i have never used it.

agree with Johan about the rubbish on there but i didn't think it was quite that bad, guess it depends what you are trying to get. I guess it is only a matter of time until emule gets shut down too.

DC is direct connect, a file sharing system that uses HUBs where uses log on to, and share /dload theirs and others files.
Pro:
Its faster than BT, and you can limit the dloaders to only those within the same hub.
If its a private hub it's quiet safe.
Friend list and favorits list.
Direct chat so fakes get droped fast unlike BT.
Doesnt put as much strain on the HD as BT does

Con:
Public hubs are easier to trace than BT (think Anti piracy agencies )
Hub can get full (never happed in 5years for me though) but in theory it can.
Share limits can be a b****** for some hubs (think 500gb+ share limit to enter)

and so on, but you can google DC++ and other clients if you wanna try.

neither3nor4 is on a distinguished road
I never had any luck with emule or edonkey. Shareaza connects to the emule network and seems to work fine.
