Cheap printers

I'm looking for a multifunction printer (copying/scanning/printing) to replace my old inkjet. I only occasionally print or copy text-based documents at home, so print-speed isn't important, but the output should be of decent quality. I was astonished to find one model (Brother DCP-130C) available for only $499 + 1000 Netvigator reward points. Other models are available from $800 up.
Will these cheap printers get the job done, or is it better to spend a bit more?

I stick with HP, given that the cartridges are available virtually everywhere. Printers are a bit like Gillette razors .. cheap to buy but can get expensive when you factor in the cost of the parts.

I'd look at the cost and availablity of the cartridges before jumping for the best bargain on the hardware.

I would think twice about Netvigator deals as they are known to fail shortly after the warranty expires.
Brother printers are not sold in most stores and I'm not 100% certain but I think their service centre is up north.
I have a HP Photosmart 2610 4-in-1 and it does all I want. It users two cartridges one for black and one for the colours. They're not cheap.

instead of buying the printer, why don't you look for what 3rd party made continuous ink systems are available... and then based on that select the printer.

Continuous ink systems are small ink tanks you strap to the printer and feed the printer head. YOu can refill them with a bottle of ink... No more cartridges to buy. CIS are not expensive to buy, I think less than buying 2 or 3 cartridges... after that it is savings. It is ideal if you have kids or have lots of colour stuff to print.

I'm such a low volume user that i've only had 2 refills in the last 4 years on my home printer. The most important thing is acceptable text quality. It seems that Brother refill cartridges are usually cheaper than HP or Epson.

Any idea where to buy a BC-03 cartridge?

Just ran out Thursday and shocked that not one of my regulars stock it anymore

Its for the Canon BJ 210 circa 1997. Is it possible to drill a hole and fill up the cartridge with the cheap stuff?

HP's will kill you in the long run on refills as they are the most expensive but the machines are the cheapest. Though if you are a light user that does not apply.
I have a Canon MP460 which is working pretty well so far.
