Parking during Chinese New Year

I have heard that the police do not issue parking tickets during CNY. Does this apply throughout the public holidays, or only on the first day?

I asked my wife about it and she said on the first day of CNY the Police used to turn a blind eye in regards to parking infringements. She said that they dont do that anymore as too many people were absuing the privilege. Dont take that for gospel, thats just what my wife said.

Dan.

I've been parking on side streets the last couple days without problem. You can see cars parked all over the place on the streets. A local friend said that you can get away with this for the first 3 days, so I'll test my luck again today!

I believe that you can safely park on roads provided that you don't block traffic (yes really) and that the road is not marked with double yellow lines or zig zags.
