112 Apartments or Empire Studios

Hi Everyone,

I'll be moving to HK in 3 weeks and working in North Point. Does anyone have any information about the following apartments? Empire sent me some photos and they dont look half as nice as the website. 112 looks nice from hongkonghomes.com.

Any help would be greatly appreciated or if there are any other recommendations for serviced apartments in close proximity or N Point.

Thanks

112 apartments, North Point

Hi Goirish,

I am currently staying at 112 apartments but this is only a temporary arrangement (Thank god!).

The interiors are new. But depending on which unit you are assigned to, it can actually be very small (< 200 sq. feet nett) and crammed. What's more, it's located along Chun Yeung Street, which is a wet market, and it can be rather filthy, so be prepared to trample over dirty streets downstairs.

I was told that my tiny unit actually costs my company HKD 8000 a month. Frankly, with that kind of money, can get some place much better.

I am not quite sure about other service apartments in North Point as I don't work in the area. In any case, I'm also moving to another district, so can't help much...

Hi Neily,

Thanks for the reply...it's only going to be temp for me as well until I can find something more perminent. I'm all alone so I really don't mind the small size and it seems like everything is nice inside. Maybe we can get around the wet mart and meet up for a drink when I arrive if your still in the area.

Thanks Again

8000 for a hole-in-the-wall actually isn't that outrageous for an HK serviced apartment. Granted, you can rent a decent flat for that price out in Tung Chung or something but for short stays, you really can't avoid the serviced apartment/ hotel premium.

I've known co-workers who'ved stayed at places like Central 88, where the rents start at 20k or so.

I have stayed at both W studios early last year and more recently for 3 months at Empire Studio in Causeway Bay. I know the pics they sent me also wasn't that impressive, but the place is actually very nice. It is located on Hysan Avenue, one of the most expensive shopping street in HK, it is definitely not a wet market, there are Mercedes, BMW, Rolls Royce car shops nearby plus lots of high end ladies hangbag shops. I was glad I made an appointment for the visit and very happy staying there. It is located in the 'west' end of Causeway Bay, away from the noise and overcrowded people which is on the 'east' end (Sogo side).

I think the old saying, 'don't judge a book by its cover' apply here. Actually, I know many of Empire's tenants, all professional expats stayed for one year or longer.
